The front wheel bearings are shot on my 2002 Accent with only 80K km on it. I have an appointment to have them replaced on friday to the tune of $417.00 .

.
Is this normal for these cars with that mileage? They are not cone shaped roller bearings like I have been familiar with on *conventional* vehichles I have owned over the years. Those kind can be lubricated and adjusted and/or replaced very easily but the ones on this car can not be serviced easily like the other makes . They have to be pressed out of the hubs with a hydraulic press and the new ones pressed back into the hubs. Therfore it is not a shade tree mechanic job for me like it used to be.
I am curious how long the front wheel bearings are lasting in other peoples Accents. Is this unusual for that low a mileage or is it just built in obselescence seeing as those parts are only warrented for 60K km.

Both of mine have gone out. The drivers at 80 and the passengers at 98000. But MY dealer did it as Warranty Work.
