Don't you have some paperwork with the VIN on it, like the title or your insurance paperwork?

Bummer.
It should start with: KHMVD1
KHM = Manufacturer Code; Hyundai Motor Co, Korea
V = model; Accent
D = body style; 3-door hatchback
1 = model version; base model (L); 2 = Deluxe (GL); 3 = Super Deluxe (GLS, LS or GS)

If the car isn't accessible, the VIN should be listed on your title or registration.

KMHVD14NZS
the value for the 'accent' is worth more than the 'accent L'
so which would i have?

Looks like it is an "L". Here's the decoder from
http://www.hmaservice.com
KHM = Manufacturer Code; Hyundai Motor Co., Korea
V = model; Accent
D = body style; 3-door hatchback
1 = model version; standard "L"
4 = restraint type; dual airbag
N = 1495cc (1.5L) 4-cyl
Z = check digit (probably a 2 not a Z)
S = 1995
