auto trans, no reverse& nuetral

im a newbie. i have a 1995 accent. all of a sudden i have no reverse. the car doesnt move at all. and when i put it in nuetral the car moves forward. what is going on. i checked the oil level it is find.

Could be the transmission cable. If you were low on oil no gears would work. Check the cable area and see if anything is damaged by wear or by an object hitting it.Good luck.

have a Hyundai dealer check the range switch

Have a look under your car from where the shift linkage is and check for damaged parts and/or you'll see a cable leading from the transmission.

i took off the console and the cover over the shifter. the cable is fine. i put the ignion on and when oi shifted from park to reverse i heard i clicking sound in reverse and nuetral only no clicking sound in 3rd 2nd or first. it sounds like a selinoud that making the sound. does anybody no where the selinouds are around the trans.

there are several solenoids in the transmission, which the TCM uses to control the shifting. The clicking in "N" is clearly an indication, that the selector is out of position. Does the car move in any other gear lever position ??

thanks for your help duke. the car moves thru all the gears except reverse. it sounds like if all the selonoids are in the trans that i will
to take it to a trans shop to have it checked out. thanks

try this: shift the G-lever into "L", accelerate to +- 4000 rpm, lift your foot off the accelerator as to decelerate, does the car free-wheel or does it decelerate with the engine rpm ????

Those tranny's are finicky they have bands that wrap each gear inside the bell housing, one of those may have snapped.
