Auto-X: I'd like to use a Hyundai

Well, simply put, the thread title gives away the subject matter for this discussion   I would like to be able to get a cheap small, POS Hyundai frame to throw a larger engine in with ease.  An engine that would bolt into the Tranny would be excellent   I'm planning on spending >500$ on the car, and I'd like to buy a used engine for not much more to swap in.  I'm hoping to keep the entire project below 3,000$ for atleast the first year.
 
I want to make a cheap Auto-X monster, and my target seems to be a local 4 speed Excel that is going for 300$ on a used lot.  Which probably means either the tranny or engine does not work.  This however, is perfect because I do not plan on using the stock engine.  I would really love to use the Tiburon GT V6 engine from the newer line (03-04 area) for the nice torque located down low.  I do not, however, know diddly about what motor fits into what frame and mounts in the Hyundai lineup.  Since the V6's were not out at the production time of the Excel, I would assume there is little chance to fit a V6 in there without having a shop full of tools and welders, and all sorts of goodies.  So, what engines will be a vast improvement over the stock motor, and will swap in fairly easily?
 
The next question is aftermarket goodies that will fit the Excel or equivalent setup.  I would want to update suspension, most noteably the stock struts/shocks and springs.  This would be a dedicated track car left just legal enough to drive down the road to local events.  Also, I see that the fitment for the hubs on an Excel (1994) is 4 by 114, which seems to be a hard rim size to find for.  I would love to grab a set of 15x6's or 14x6's that would be forged or atleast lightweight (preferably below 12-13 pounds) per rim.  Now, I know this question is no longer engine internals, but I would rather keep items regarding this car in one dedicated thread, rather than start numerous threads throughout.
 
The main thing is figuring out what I can fit into the smallest/lightest weigth USDM Hyundai platform, whether it be Excel, Accent, Sonata, First gen Tiburon, what have you.  The sole purpose of this vehicle will be for Auto-X dominance, and something to beat around for some major fun :)

If you're just using it to race and not a daily driver, it might be doable.  The general consensus is that it is not economically feasible to drop a Tib V6 into an Elantra, but if you're a real motor head with a shop and will do your own work and stuff, maybe it's not so bad.  Note that the base 2.0L Beta II I4 engine in the Tib is also the engine used in the Elantra.  I think I've seen one example of someone who dropped a Tib V6 into an Elantra.

Going down a class to the Accent, I think there's no way in heck you're gonna cram a Tib V6 into the Accent engine bay.  I've seen a few examples of people who've swapped the Beta II into an Accent though, and I think in a few cases they even managed to turbo it.  If I were looking to put together an Accent-based racer, that's the route I would take.
