A neighbor asked me to help her replace the battery in a 2002 Accent 1.6L.

We went out to buy one and I discovered nothing appears to be out there in the after market.

My parts guy says he has something but he can't guarantee it will fit within the battery mounts or that the hood will be able to shut.

Can anyone suggest a replacement that will fit on the battery tray and be able to be held in place by the existing clamps or hold-down bolts? Are we into a battery from the Hyundai dealer?

Thanks for your help.

Take out the existing batter and go down to your nearest auto parts store. Even with the biggest monkey working there helping you, you should be able to find something of the same size, amperage, and connectors.

Its an Accent. Its for you neighbour. You don't need some dry-cell, lightweight thing that'll cost more than the car.

Have encoutered the same problem.  Walmart, Sears, Autozone do not have a battery listed for an Accent  (01 in this case).

Did find an "Interstate" (MT-26R) battery ( http://www.interstatebatteries.com/estore/default.asp) that apparenlty is the right type, but its around $80.  Suspect that the price would be about hte same at a dealer too.

Did you find a suitable battery?

Canadian Tire up here has batteries for all sizes and power requirements. I imagine a 450 - 500CCA battery would be more than suitable in an accent. The best aftermarket battery brand right now is Optima. I highly doubt that any of their batteries would fit into an accent. Smallest I've heard were around 600CCA. Some newer batteries can be purchased with the connectors on the side, instead of on top (good for safety!).
