So I've been looking in the classifieds for a cheap car and I came across an ad for a 96 Accent GT. 600 bucks (in Canadian dollars) and needs some work for safety inspection. The guy who has it now bought it about a year ago after someone had drove it into a ditch. He replaced one fender, hood, front clip and the windshield. Looking at it now you can't tell it's ever been hit. The car needs some exhaust work. The section of exhaust that runs over the rear axle is bad, plus a gasket or two needs replacing. It also needs some brake work. The junction block (or whatever it's called) on the passenger side where all the lines attach to has one leaking fitting. Whether it can be fixed by replacing the one fitting that's leaking, or replacing the entire piece I don't know, I don't even know what part the guy is talking about. The handbrake either needs to be adjusted or have some parts replaced as well. It could use some paint as the guy was going to repaint the car to match the replaced body panels. He gave it a coat of flat black paint, but then decided not to repaint it for whatever reason. The engine seems to run pretty good, the clutch seems ok. I haven't been able to take the car out to try the brakes so I don't know about them. He has 4 14 inch snow tires with really good tread on rims, plus a set of 15 inch 4 bolt ASA rims with worn tires that go with the car. It also has a Sony stereo in the dash. Do you think it's worth 600 bucks plus whatever the parts cost?
