when you lock the doors with the remote  should amber bulbs flash

Yes and no.  The doors will be locked but the flashing lights indicate that the alarm is set.  If the lights do not flash, the doors will be locked but the alarm is not on.  This is probably because one of the doors is not fully closed (or the trunk lid or hood).
