Hiya
My father-in-law has the new 2007 matrix (1.6 petrol)(i have a terracan) and there is a distinct whining as the engine runs. is this normal? I have listened to others and there is a whine but not as bad. It doesnt appear to be getting any worse but it isnt improving either.
any ideas?

Hi.
Regarding the whining noise from your fathers engine, makes me wonder if it has a terbo?
I have a 1.5 terbo diesel Matrix that does the same; the whine comes in at about 1500 revs
which is totally different to any other terbo engined car I have driven. I understand that the terbo's were designed by Hyundai and are called 'variable speed terbo's', whatever that means.
