I replaced the rear disc brake pads on my 2002 XG350.While attempting to install the pads I met with much resistance and the only way I gould get the pads to go fully on, was to use a c-clamp.  The problem with that was the rotor would now rub on the pads.  Is there a trick to installing these pads?  Thanks.

I changed the front pads on my 2004 XG350i this weekend and they slid in easily. The caliper removed easily and I was able to collapse the pistons slowly with a small 'C' clamp. The caliper then slid over the pads with no problem. I think it took longer to jack the car up and remove the wheel then it did to change the pads.

The pistons on the calipers need to be pushed back into the calipers.  However, unlike front calipers, the rears can't just be pushed back in with a C-clamp.  They need to be rotated clockwise while pushing.  There are a few versions a tool to accomplish this:

Here's what I use (cheap and small).  It goes on the end of a ratchet extension like a socket:

Nicer but costs more:

I had no problem with the front disc brake pad replacement either.  The back ones are slightly different.

I had no problem making the piston retract.  The problem I had was putting in the pads. When I pushed one end of the pad into the spring clips, the other end of the same pad would pop out.

I've heard that sometimes the "ears" that ride in the guides need to be ground down/filed down a little.  I'm getting ready to do my rear discs soon on my Elantra so I'll be getting some first-hand experience with this stuff.

Thanks for the tip.  Since I have had no previous experience with Hyundai rear disc brakes,  I did not know if the pads were supposed to fit very tight.  I will take your advice.  Thanks again.
