The 2.9 diesel comes fitted with 255/65R/16 tyres as standard. Have anyone fitted 255/70R/16 tyres? What is the pros and cons?

Did that, Good year ATR.


Highly not recommended, i mean the good year.


It runs very good, the traction is much better the car is also higher.


Its likes to drink more of course but its OK, i also added a chip to the gear computer so it runs much better. The engine isn’t smooth as it was but i hope to solve it in the next days.


you can go a head with the 255.70.16

Have just fitted 255.70.16 tyres to my car.


So far so good, I fitted Bridgestone Dueler D694, also known as Deuler Revo. It seams to be the no 1 tyre in the USA.

I fitted BFG AT's on mine some months ago in 255/70/16. Best investment ever made.
These babies are even better than their rumour say. They are fitted on 16x8 Cobra Alloys as they are beefier than what Hyundai can supply.
I am currently looking for at suspension enhancement - Probably a 2" lift. Problem is the IFS. I can't find any after market springs/shocks that will do the trick. I have been told that by adjusting the torsion bar, a lift can be made? The droop/suspension travel in the rear live axle is great!!

If you look at www.pedders.com.au you will find shocks and springs for the Terracan.
I have fitted the raised rear spring that lift the rear by 45mm. The front I lifted 25mm by adjusting the torque arms. Also fitted the Trukryder shocks, it made a vast improvment.

A little more info on how to adjust the torsion arms. I have been trying to figure out exactly how to go about this.
How does the ride hight difference in the rear and front affect the handling?
And what improvements did the shocks give?

Hi Dane
The difference between the hight, front and rear make no difference on the handling of the car.
The new shocks that I fitted made all the difference and improves the handling so mush that you wont believe it.
To adjust the front hight is very simple. On the side of the car next to the drivers door, get under the car and you will see the torsion bar running from the front to the middel were it ends.
At the bottom of the chasis there the torsion bar end there is an bolt. If you turn the bolt clockwise, that side in the front will lift. About 1½ turns will raise the body 10mm. Before adusting the bolt first measure the hight from the ground to the arc in the front wheel and then adjust the bolt. After ajusting take a short drive for the suspension to settel and then do the final adjustment. Hope this will help you

PWVEN OK, will look into this during the weekend.
Is 25mm the limit when using only torsion bars? Dhow do the the standard height front springs handle the lift?

Another mod. I am planning: Extending the axle/transfer case breathers for wading. Any experience on this? I think I have located the rear axle breather, which appearently leads into some kind of chassis crossmember?? Also, I am not sure whether or not the fuel tank has a breather which needs extending?

A bonus post - I think I am onto something great here but I want to get every aspect sorted out:
Just looked around to see what other info there is available on torsion bar liftning.
It seems that by cranking up the ride by adjusting torsion bars, you loose wheel down travel. And this can be solved by either replacing upper bump stops with low profile bump stops or by shaving the existing bump stops. But what are your experiences?

Yes I think that 25mm is max so you still have good wheel travel. You can also send email to Pedders and they will give you more info.

This weekend I looked for the adjustment bolts - But i couldn't see any.
The torsion bars end in the cross member below the front doors, men there is no bolt any where in sight here. At the end of the bar there is a rubber sleeve where the bar is secured onto the cross member. Am I looking in the wrong place??

You are at the right place. On that cross member where the tortion bar ends about 100mm towards the outside of the car is the bolt.
It may look like a bolt houlding down the cross member but this is the bolt to adjust the tortion bar. Let me know if you need more info.

OK PWVEN, I rember seeing this bolts - and yes, I did think they were for bolting the cross member onto the chassis frame.
Looks like I will be having a bit of fun this weekend

PWVEN, have you notice that the plastic (!!!!) skid plate under the engines is covered by some kidn of thick foamy material on the top side? I have tried to figure out what this is for... my conclusion is for reducing noise that is reflected from the engine onto the ground. Or do you have any better suggestions. Would like to replace the plastic plates (one in front and one under engine) with sheet metal. The plastic SUCKS and I think that Hyundai should have used a metal plate instead.

some other comments.
torsion bar - very POOR ones, i have a winch in front and i already played with the bars twice but after so long its falling down to the original height.
there are no HD replacements in the market yet or i failed to find.
if you do raise the front pay attention to the bump stops (rubber ones in the front suspension), you must have clearance of at least 3 cm" from the top one, otherwise the car will be stiff and of course no travel for the shocks.
i replaced the shocks for Koni's - perfect result.

by the way my tires have been changed to 265.70.16. and not 255.70.16

Wow, 265/70. Without IFS lift!! But there is only about 1-2cm clearence between the tire and the inner arches on full steering lock. This winter, the snow from the tires rubbed against inner arches on full lock.
So how does 265/70 fit??
Do you have photo's? This I would like to see
Problem is BFG do no make AT's in 265/70, then it's 265/75, which certainly do not fit

the torsion bars gave a little raise
the car runs very good, it drinks gas like i do beer!
beside very good, some more friends did it. after 50K KM no problems.
so far reccomanded, aldo changed the tires to Toyo, even better than the Goddyear
ATR of course
