thermostat?

I have a 2000 Sonata, v6.  I think I have a bad thermostat, or that's what I would think with another car.  I expected to find it at the radiator/top heater hose junction, but no.  Can any one point out how dumb I really am, by telling me where it is?

its in the middle of the v at the opposite end to the belts.inside the housing which is held in place by 4 bolts
