I have a 2002 Elantra (not on warranty anymore). I think the problem is the a/t. At first gear, it will change only near 4000 RPM or over. After, gear changes seem ok. Suddenly, while driving at 100 km/h, the RPM goes up and down, like if the gear is between 2, and it does this constantly at all speed after. This morning, my check engine light is ON. Would this be a transmission problem?
Thanks,
Vlachan

It could also be an electrical problem, as the transmission is electronicly shifted if I'm not mistaken. Take it to your dealer or trusted auto technician to have it put on a diagnostics computer to decode the check engine light, that will lead the technician to where to look for the problem. It could just be a sensor(with any luck). Hope you get it figured out.

This happened to my sisters car not too long ago. She just took it to the dealer and they had to reset a computer chip to factory settings and it was fine after. It sounds to me like your elantra is doing the same as her volkswagen was doing.

this could easily be a TPS sensor created problem. Make sure, that the fault code is noted on your part of the work order, for future references.
