? regarding timing belt
Hello everyone. I just had work done on my car at Canadian Tire. Now before you comment negatively about Canadian Tire, they had a 12 month no interest plan and that's the only way I could have work done on the car.
The mechanic showed me where the timing belt would be. Now he said that one was the fan belt and the one inside a metal casing was the timing belt....you can't see it but he says it's usually changed at around 60,000 km. My car has 88,000 km on it. Is this right? I looked in my manual but it's not obvious where that would be. Does anyone have a diagram of this?
Is there a fan belt and a timing belt?
Is the timing belt inside a metal casing?
Does it need to be changed at certain frequencies?
Thanks for your help.

This diagram shows the timing belt assembly on a 2006 Accent engine. Your 2002 is bascially the same, but diagrams from that set of years are not as clear in displaying the various parts. The alternator belt is not shown, but it runs off the crankshaft pulley (item #10).
COMPONENT
Yes, except the fan belt should be called an alternator belt since the fan is driven by an electric motor.
It's underneath a metal cover (2 actually), but yes, you cannot see it without dismantling part of the engine.
In most of the U.S., the replace interval is 60,000 miles. See you owner's manual for the interval that applies in Canada.

Thank you thank you for your reply. I had the word done on my car yesterday and took it out for an hour drive today to check out everything. It works better than it did before so I'm happy with that. Thank you for your valuable information.
