Hi All,

I have an older Accent a 1999 4 door automatic. Recently the transmission seems to not want to change into 4th gear everthing else seems to be fine on the car. Anyone have this problem or know of a fix ? Or is this one of those get a new transmission problems ?

the problem is that transmission problems can be difficult to diagnose and quite often multiple steps are best to figure it out.

first step would be when did you last have the trans fluid changed? that can have an enormous impact on the function of your transmission.

beyond that unless you're really good with this stuff a good repair tech is usually needed. it may be just a solenoid. without one the trans cant shift and the part is generally around the $200 range give or take. however replacement usually isn't overly labor intensive.

also the pre 2000 hyundai transmissions aren't exactly known for reliability...in fact if memory serves me there was a faulty transmission control module that they replaced under an extended warranty (or whatever they want to call it) but i am unsure if they still do. its something to check into if you find the transmission computer is fried.

 

Im not too sure when the fluid was changed last. I'll have to look into that I may check to see if Royal Purple makes Transmission fluid for this car.


ALso some other searching on the inter seems to point to the "pulse generator" being problematic and could casue this problem.

 

yeah like i said the older hyundai auto gearboxes are none to pretty. could be that, i'm not overly familiar with them.

i wouldn't waste your money on royal purple for a car like that, but hey its your dollar
