Default Manual trany fluid change

Hi,
im going to change the manual tranny fluid to try and help the grinding problem. i would just like to make sure that this is the drain plug

also, im assuming i need to suck out the old fluid, and that it wont just drain out

thanks

That looks like it. Just changed the oil in my 2004 Accent gearbox today. It will start to run out right away, like when you changed the engine oil. I used a drain pan to catch it. To keep it from "burping" it helps to open the fill plug as well (this vents it). These plugs do have a gasket on them, and the bottom one was magnetic to catch any chips. (Kind of like the magnet in an automatic transmission pan.) The drain I think was 23mm, and the fill plug was 17mm. It holds 2.27 quarts in my 2004. The owners manual has information on checking the level, etc. Hope this helps.

i have a quick question,
im not sure what the fill location is. i found to bolts on the bottom, a 14mm and a 17mm. i got the 14mm off, but its just a long bolt. is it the 17mm? im starting to round it becuase its on so tight

thanks

OHHH. THAT'S THE WRONG BOLT! Hope you didn't just render your reverse inoperable...

It's the bigger one. It's a magnetic plug, methinks. Go out and buy a wrench or socket, don't bugger up the bolt anymore.

The oil will just drain out, you don't need to suck out anything.

What's all the oil all over the case? Is the motor leaking out the valve cover or something? That's bad. My engine is dry as can be.

hey,
i undid it, and bolted it up again. i hope the reverse is going to be ok.
i backed out of the drive way ok. so i will see

i got the 17mm off finally! it took a breaker bar and a inpact socket, but its off. i filled it up with 2 liters of syth lucas 75w-90. it seemed full. they say to check the level wit your finger, theres no way my finger is fitting. lol
used a wire instead.

i have a slow leak from the rocket gasket. i might fix that next week.

it seems to be grinding less with hard shifts to 2nd, so i guess it was worth it

thanks for all the help
