P0734 4th gear problem, transmission needs replacement?
#11
I had a similar experience with my Tiburon. The Clutch retainers had broke and got into the differential causing the noise. I elected to purchase a Unwarranted Transmission from a salvage yard and repair it . Here is my experience / how to , it uses steps posted above and here - P0734 Transmission problems - Hyundai Forums : Hyundai Forum

P0734 Gear 4 incorrect ratio/P0328 Knock Sensor
I need to get my 2007 smogged but the check engine light is on and so when I had it scanned I got the P0734 and p0328 codes. I have taken it to several mechanics and they are telling me transmission needs to be rebuilt/replaced. You stated that replacing the clutch bearing solved the problem. I would like to get the car smogged and get that done if possible. If I get the knock sensor replaced will that possibly cause the check engine light to go out so I can pass the smog? Or will I have to fix the transmission first? Thanks. I don't know that I want to try and do the repair myself. I would need a video to guide me through it.

How to tell the difference
These descriptions of problems basically describe my situation. I have seen here, as well ad in other threads, the DIY repair/service to the overdrive bearing and am willing to give it a try. But I'm curious if there's anyway to tell if there's a more serious internal problem to the tranny which requires removal or is it purely a guess? At about $20 and an afternoon of my time vs. $1000 - $1500 or more, it's a no brainer. But I don't want to WASTE my time if I knew that the simpler WITT kit won't fix my problem. I don't expect an ironclad guarantee, but would appreciate any additional info.
Thanks s bunch!

Luckily, it's not that difficult to fix. You don't even need to remove the transmission from the car. You need to order a new bearing kit from whatever it takes transmissions(forgot the exact URL but you can google it). The part number is 42220LK. You get a torrington race bearing, a bushing and something I can't name.
UPDATE: Thank you. Here is the link for the kit to repair the issue. https://www.wittrans.com/search?part=42220lk42220LK Kit, A4BF1/A4BF2*/A4AF2/ A4AF3 Overdrive Hub (Front)
