I have an 04 Elantra that goes into all the gears fine but is hard shifting from first to second only. If I manually shift the trans it will shift ok only shifts hard when in drive anyone have any suggestions it would be appreciated thank you.

 

Do you have a CEL ? It could be a few things , scan or have it scanned for stored codes.

 

Have you replaced or disconnected the battery before this occurred?. What you can try is disconnect both battery cables and perform a capacitive draw witch intales simply touching both cables together for about 30 seconds. MAKE SURE BOTH CABLES ARE DISCONNECTED from battery when doing this. This resets the adaptives. Then drive with a steady throttle at about 25%. Let trans goes through all gears. Do this 4 to 5 times and see if that helps
