Hyundai Elantra While not much larger than the accent, the Elantra offers similar room, but a sportier look and feel, as well as more power.

Question 2002 Elantra, automatic VSS Location

I am new here, thanks for adding me. I have been having some issues with finding the Vehicle Speed Sensor or VSS on my 2002 Elantra, automatic. Is there anyone that might be able to tell me where and what it is I am looking for? I had a scan and it came up P500, no luck finding this sensor.

The Haynes manual says it is mounted on the transaxle and one needs to jack the car up and put it on jack stands to disconnect the wiring harness. There is one mounting bolt and an "O" ring. But, the book doesn't show where it is located. Sorry. If your speedometer is working then clear the code and see if it comes back.

Edit: Found out that it suppose to be located on the left axle near the transmission.
Haven't looked for it myself. I'm just praying it doesn't need replacing.

Just now read somewhere that the sensor is located under the air filter assembly
I just don't know.
