2002 Elantra, General Questions
Hi all,
I just bought a 2002 Elantra GT (upgrading from a 2002 Accent) and I'd like to get it on the road ASAP, but it has a few problems.
The one area I'm most concerned with is the timing belt. It has 99k miles on it and I don't know that the timing belt was ever changed, so obviously I want to get that done immediately.
I've been using Google nonstop for the past few days trying to find part numbers for all of the components I'll need to do the timing belt and water pump, but there seems to be no concise information on it. Is there any complete list of parts I'll need to do this? Namely, I need the part numbers for the Timing Belt, both pulleys, all 3 accessory belts, and the water pump and gasket.
Also, I've been reading a lot about it and it seems that some parts are all XD years and some parts seem to be for 2001-2002 and 2002.5-2006. How can I know which parts I need? My Elantra was made in November 2001.
Thanks for any help!
Dan

Your local parts store should be able to provide you with the items needed. I recently changed mine (2002) prior to trading it in and had no issues with the parts provided. I changed the timing belt, timing belt tensioner pulley, & 3 accessory belts. I was advised by a local hyundai tech to not bother changing the pump since they do see them go bad very often (86K on my car).
I referenced these pics/instructions on another hyundai site:

Note: I did not need a puller for the crank pulley. I literally slid off when I removed the nut with an impact. (remove right front wheel and plastic wheel well panel for access)
