Default How often should I do a Transmission flush?

I took my 05 Santa Fe in the shop today for an oil change and they told me I needed a transmission flush (im at 49,000 miles) and a coolant flush as well.

I'm looking at my $300 sales receipt and realize I got screwed royally!

my question is - how often is a transmission flush recommended or needed?

also - how much fluid should they be putting back into the truck? my invoice says 13 @ $3.99 - is that too much? $51.87 for fluid?

If its legit than no problem but if they ripped me off b/c they could and b/c I am female then I am going to go back up there with legal representation - this place apparently has a reputation for pushing services on women who come in there alone to get repairs or maintenance

You could get away with a pan drain at 30K and then a full flush at 60K but Ialways flush my auto trans every 30K miles. Same for the coolant. What you paid seems about right. I paid a little more on the 3 cars I had done but that's because they all had the full 30K mile service.

Default RE: How often should I do a Transmission flush?

My limited knowledge tells me $300 is high, but not an outrage. And 13 quarts is not too much because they have to "flush" the thing, so that means they have to run fluid through it to clean out the dirty stuff, in addition to replace the old fluid. So that leaves the antifreeze change, which also means they have to "flush" the thing for it to be done right, but they can use water to flush, then replace with 50/50 antifreeze mix.

Now all this supposes they did the proper job, didn't skimp. My question is this: Did you do it at the dealer, or did you go to another shop someplace? The reason I ask is because they were supposed to use the Hyundai spec trans fluid, and not Dextron II or III. Anything less is wrong, and it needs to be changed again.

So again... where did you have it changed? And what kind of fluid did they use?
