Monsoon blows fuses
Hi Guys I got a 2003 Santa Fe. Radio and clock have lost power. The fuse for them blows immediately upon installing, a short circuit. Think it might be stereo itself. According to the wiring diagram the stereo's power wire is Red and the ground is Brown. Putting 12V to the red wire and grounding the brown wire with jumpers still doesn't turn the radio on. With the Ign Switch on or off. Thinking of trying another Monsoon stereo. But the antenna doesn't unplug from the radio. Where the antenna cable goes is pretty hard to trace. I imagine there must be a disconnect some where on it?
There is no visible antenna. I guess it's in the rear window? Anybody know how to disconnect the antenna? Anybody run into this problem before?
Thanks

When you remove the stereo, did you try to put in a new fuse to see if the short circuit is still there or not??
That would let you know if the radio is the cause or if there is something else that needs your attention

Hi avisitor Problem solved. The stereo was blown. Got another one for $50 on Ebay. Determined the stereo was at fault much the same way you said. Also, found the correct wiring diagram and the hot wires are brown, ground black. Not red & green. Seems the Monsoon stereo is built by Delco. I learned one thing. Santa Fe doesn't have Monsoons, yet. Thanks Again
