Default Sante Fe Cargo Space

Hi,

I'm interested in buying a Santa Fe in the coming months. Not certain yet if we want new or used but if we can find a good deal on a used car we'd probably lean more towards that.

Can anyone point me to a cargo comparison site or chart for 2010 to 2014 Santa Fes? If it makes any difference, I'd only be interested in V6 models.

Thanks,

Etienne

Be aware, the most recent generation of the Santa Fe (3rd generation: 2013-up) comes in 2 versions:
- short wheelbase (SWB) "Sport" (5 passenger, 4-cylinder only)
- long wheelbase (LWB) (7 passenger, V6 only)
So if you really want a V6, you will have to buy the larger, more expensive long wheelbase version.

Gen 3:
2014 LWB: 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 4dr SUV 3.3L V6 AWD 6-speed Automatic Features and Specs
2014 SWB: 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Sport 4dr SUV 2.4L 4-cyl. 6-speed Automatic Features and Specs

Gen 2:
2012: 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe SE 4dr SUV 3.5L V6 AWD 6-speed Automatic Features and Specs

If you want the smaller version of the Santa Fe with a V6, I'd suggest looking at the Kia Sorento. Kia is owned by Hyundai and the Sorento is basically the Kia version of the Santa Fe.

2014: 2014 Kia Sorento EX 4dr SUV 3.3L V6 6-speed Automatic Features and Specs

Lots of good info at New Cars, Used Cars, Car Reviews and Pricing - Edmunds.com

Thanks for the reply. I do have a few follow-up questions though:

1. For Gen 3 (2013+), by "LWB/Limited" do you mean XL? Living in Canada we have the Sport and the XL, both of which have "Limited" trims available. Regardless, th Sport comes in 2.0L or 2.4L 4-cyl only so I wouldn't be interested in that.

2. I have visited edmonds.com before but I'd be intersted in the cargo space available in the Gen 3 Limited/LWB/XL with the 3rd-row seats down; edmonds.com only gives cargo space with all seats in place.

Thanks for you help.

1. Yes, the LWB would be the XL in Canada.

2. Edmunds does say maximum cargo and cargo with all seats in place:

2nd generation:
- 34.2 cu.ft. (all seats in place)
- 78.2 cu.ft. (maximum cargo) (basically the 2nd row folded)

3rd generation LWB/XL:
- 13.5 cu.ft. (all seats in place)
- 80.0 cu.ft. (maximum cargo) (basically the 2nd & 3rd row folded)

What it doesn't tell you is the 3rd gens space with just the 3rd row folded and the 2nd row in place. Car and Driver claims 40.9 cu.ft. with just the 3rd row folded. (source: 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe LWB First Drive – Review – Car and Driver)

Just for ha-ha's here's the 2-row Kia Sorento:
- 36.9 cu.ft. (all seats in place)
- 72.5 cu.ft. (maximum cargo) (basically the 2nd row folded)

So what you have to look at is:

Total volume (all seats folded):
- 2nd gen = 78.2 cu.ft.
- 3rd gen = 80.0 cu.ft.
- Sedona = 72.5 cu.ft.

Cargo behind 2nd row (3rd row folded is equipped):
- 2nd gen = 34.2 cu.ft.
- 3rd gen = 40.9 cu.ft.
- Sedona = 36.9 cu.ft.

So (obviously) the 3rd gen has the max cargo room, and the most cargo room with 2 only 2 rose of seating. But it's also a larger, heavier and more expensive vehicle. Do you really need the 3rd row and all that space? Like the 2nd gen SF, the Kia Sedona is smaller and cheaper than the SF LWB/XL, but offers a V6 (the exact same V6 that's in the SF LWB/XL) and has more cargo room than the 2nd gen SF (behind the 2nd row).

Here's a comparison of the Sport, LWB/XL and the Sedona on Edmunds: Compare Vehicles: 2014 Hyundai vs. 2014 Hyundai vs. 2014 Kia

ADDED:
Don't turn your nose up the the 2.0L Turbo in the Sport. It's just as powerful as the V6 in the LWB/XL.
3.3L V6 = 290 hp @ 6400 rpm - 252 ft-lbs. @ 5200 rpm
2.0L Turbo = 264 hp @ 6000 rpm - 269 ft-lbs. @ 1750 rpm (almost as much power at a lower RPM and MORE torque)
