I have noticed some items in themaintenance schedule for my 2010 Santa Fe Limited (2.4L 4 cyl engine) may beincorrect holdovers from earlier editions of the Owner's Manual, such asInspect Fuel Filter at 30K mile intervals which is highly impractical since thefilter is internal to the gas tank. So my question has to do with therequirement to Check/Set Valve Clearance at 60K miles. Does that engineactually have adjustable valve clearance?

The valves aren't easily adjustable as in other cars
It can not be done with a screw driver and a wrench.
You will need a special tool and shims of different sizes to adjust the valve clearance

 

Thanks avisitor for that response. I have posed that question to a couple of the dealers in the area and the conclusion is that - as I had expected - there is no valve adjustment since the engine utilizes hydraulic lifters. I want to confirm that through the Hyundai USA site so we will see what that yields assuming I get a response.

 

I used to do my own valve adjustments on my cars.
But, Hyundai throws us a curve ball with hydraulic lifters.
Still it can be done if the valves are really bad ... just not by the average DIYer

 

Yes, I am used to doing my own valve adjustments but on solid lifter overhead cam engines such as in Mercedes diesels which was a relatively simple task with feeler gauge and jam nut wrenches. I have been impressed with the reliability of our Santa Fe, but I am disappointed in the errors in the owner's manual. I have not heard back from Hyundai USA, but that was not unexpected.
