Default 06' Sonata Shiftronic won't downshift manually

I have an '06 Sonata with about 147,500 miles on it and a 2.4L engine. I frequently use the manual aspect of the Shiftronic transmission to wind the engine out for better acceleration on on-ramps and also use it to downshift as I approach reduced speed limits in town. The other day when I went to downshift, the light on in the instrument panel just flashed "4" for a second and the car didn't downshift. If I put the car into neutral and then back in manual mode it will downshift, but only once. If I try again (say from 3rd to second), it will instead go from 3rd to 4th, and then the "4" will flash once on the instrument panel. It manually upshifts just fine. The car shifts perfectly fine in automatic mode, with no abrupt shifts, lag, or any other problems. Does anybody know if there's a sensor, fuse, or other part that might be the culprit here? I'd like to have a bit of a clue before I take it in to the shop. I was going to just live with it, but over the last few days I've come to realize how much I use manual mode.

Question Shiftronic Issues

Hi Cap'n,

Hope you were able to solve your shiftronic issues. I have started noticing (one instance) where the shiftronic does not downshift when I use it. When I switch from D to Shiftronic, it automatically seems to downshift by one gear, but it doesn't downshift after that, when I want it to. I too like you (nice to meet a fellow like-minded driver) use this for engine braking or for accelerating.

I am curious what you found out and if it was covered under the 10y-100K warranty. Mine has 97K miles on it and is a 2002. Please let me know. The car shifts just fine in D.

Default Thanks SBR

Thank you for the info, SBR. Did you have the same problem? I think I will just explain my problem to the dealer and that I was told online that the changing the switch will help. I am assuming this is transmission repair and covered under the 10y 100K warranty.
