Default 06 sonata_timing belt or timing chain??

When i bought my 06 Sonata i was under the impression that it had a timing belt. My car has almost 75k on it,and i called the dealership the other day to request a quote to get it repaired, and was told that it had a chain....can anyone help me with this.

You forgot to tell us what engine. However, the 2006 Sonata was only available with 2 engines: the 2.4L Theta 4-cyl and the 3.3L V6 Lambda. Both engines have a timing CHAIN, not a timing belt. It does not require replacement.

You may want to check to see if your '06 Sonata 3.3 V6 motor was involved in a recall regarding either an idler pulley or a 'pre-tensioner' pulley (IIRC) for the timing chain. Ours was replaced under warranty and it may still relevant in your case.

Hi Nova!
I'm new, just bought a 2007 Sonata SE with the 3.3. My wife and I fell in love with the car from the time we laid eyes on it.

I guess my question is comparible to the 2006 question. My neighbor across the street pulls wrenches for Toyota. He said to double check whether the car has a belt or chain. He claims that if the belt or chain is NOT changed by the exact service interval the warranty will not be honored. My car has almost 77k on it now but still looks and smells like it just came out of the showroom. Can you give me any info? thx in advance

2006 and up 2.4 and 3.3/3.8 is chain...

The 2.7 has a belt,, along with black plastic covers that give it away.

Belts need to be changed every 60K miles. Chains are supposed to be good for the life of the cars and do not require changine. Your 3.3L has a chain.
