Default 2006 Sonata Trunk indicator light won't turn off

Own a 2006 Sonata GLS 3.3L.

Having an issue where the trunk indicator light stays on on the dash and won't turn off; just started yesterday. It causes the car alarm to go off prematurely when the car is locked via remote and will not beep when locked twice with remote indicating that it is locked.

Otherwise the trunk functions properly, opens and closes fine, latches fine. The only work done in the past 3 months was an oil change a few days ago.

Was wondering what I can do to target and fix this problem.

Any help would b helpful!

Check the trunk lid latch mechanism:

TRUNK LID LATCH REPLACEMENT

- When removing and installing the trunk lid, an assistant is necessary.
- Wear gloves to protect hands from injury.

1. Remove the trunk lid trim.

2. Disconnect the key cylinder (A), connector (B) and cable (C).

3. After loosening the mounting bolt, then remove the latch assembly (D).

4. Installation is the reverse of removal.

For an update, no, no spoiler on the lid.

Also, I just checked and it seems that the trunk light stays on as well.

Thanks for the diagrams, Nova. Is there something specific to look for when checking the mechanism?

The latch mechanism let's the computer know if the lid is closed. If the switch is bad or disconnected or misaligned the switch doesn't indicate the lids is closed so the computer keeps the light on and won't allow the alarm to be set.

I'd check the wiring connection first. Then check the mechanism that operates the switch.
