Straight forward job.

While it is apart, consider replace close valve and most definitely the canister air filter...

Why are we replacing the EVAP canister ?

slow gas fill, about every 0.80 it kicks back/overflows, 2 hyundai dealer service techs told me it was the evap canister contaminated. they said not to bad to replace, i'm not a mechanic but mechanically inclined. should i drain lines or tank to un-presurize?

Tear right into the canister.. you'll need a 12mm socket, a seal pick to release the lock wire on the canister close valve connector, and a pair of long needle nose pliers to release the clamps on the assorted hoses...

Disconnect the hoses outside of the canister carrier, you will then have canister assembly in hand with 3 hoses sticking out the front of the box.

Place on table top and lift canister out of box, then remove hoses from canister and place right back onto new canister, then slide the works back into the box, re-install to car.

If you find bits of charchol fall out, then you need to clear out all your lines, or you just spinning your wheels.

Canister, close valve, and vent filter, replace all as a kit.... No P-0446 code ??

Default Where to buy?

Did you buy the evap canister from the dealer? I have an '02 with the same slow fill issue. I cannot find the evap canister, part number, etc. anywhere for sale on-line. I will call the dealer tomorrow, but wondered if there was a better (cheaper) source somewhere?

Common on the shelf item if the dealer is any good..

Fella next to me done (2) since Monday, 1 in Elantra (it exploded internally, charchol all over floor when he pulled canister out), the 2nd was an XG w/0446 code, canister was restricted.

You not going to buy this stuff at the corner store.

Get the part numbers from Hyundai, as the Kia Optima is a Sonata in disquise, and call Kia dealer for price & availability too.

So... local dealer didn't have it, would have to order.

$170, part number 3142038100 for my '02 V6.

Guess I better really make sure the problem is the canister before I ask them to order it.

I also found it @ http://www.hyundaipartsonline.com/ for cheaper ($135)

BTW... Kia dealer wanted $206!
