i need to replace my oil valve cover gasket,
ive been shoppin online and the ones from Auto Zone is $60.
but my brother found me one that is 15$ called Beck/Arnley Valve Cover Gaskets, but its just the gasket intead of the grommets and spark cover things.

Will this fix my oil leak or am i goin to need the one with the little covers instead just the gasket???

Couple of the Hyundai engines have multiple expendible part on them..

If you going to replace the cover gasket, you be best served to replace the cover gasket, spark plug tube seals, 1/2 moons.

Price difference should be obvious.. $15, hack job... $60 kit, complete do it all the first time while apart job..

 

its a 02 hyundai sonata.
2.4 L engine 4 cyl.
im not exactly sure what is leaking.
just know its eating oil and firestone said i needed a new valve cover gaskt..
i ordered the $15 valve gasket from summit auto parts
mad short or $ rite now,
I am gonna try to repalce just the gasket, no new spark covers or whateva..

sbr711 is dead on. When a valve cover gasket goes bad its normally because the gasket has been hardened by heat cycles. It will get hard and brittle and no longer seal. Chances are if the rocker cover gasket has gone bad, the half moons and tube seals/grommets are bad as well.

 

I've never done this on a Hyundai but I have done this on a BMW and a VW.

When you tighten the valve cover, the sequence in which you tighten the bolts is specific and you should do this to a particular torque value using a torque wrench. If you don't have a torque wrench you can still do this, but it might eventually leak. But it is better than what you got now. Also it is a good idea to get some gasket sealer for the half moons. The auto parts place should help here as it needs to be oil resistant.

 

Felpro is what I recommend.

The only way to tell where oil is leaking from is to simply wipe down and clean the engine from grime and grease. The drive the car a for a few days and look for oil spots.

The leak can be from a valve cover (easy) or a main seal (hard).

Also, the way to tell which gasket kit you need is to see if there is an oil leak in the spark plug tubes. Simply pull off the tube that connect to the spark plug and if you see oil, then you need to clean that tube out and replace the spark plug gasket, which means you'll need the $60 kit over the $15 kit....
