Default Speed Sensor Replaced, Still get same code when diagnosed - HELP!!!

Hi ,
so I have been helping my Dad with his 2002 Hyundai XG350 and the check engine light problem, his speedometer also stopped working
He took the car to a Big Box Chain Mechanic Shop and they wanted $600.00 to fix the problem (In and Out Speed Sensors).
He paid the $110.00 diagnostic fee, bought the sensors from Hyundai and asked me to install them for him, no problem, they went in with ease and I got the job completed in 45 minutes

sounds good so far eh?

Cranked up the car and took it for a spin, the Speedometer still doesn't work and the check-engine light popped on again

any ideas anyone???

What was the code in the computer causing the check engine light?

not sure of the exact code, I used the diagnostic tool at Discount auto parts store, the gentleman behind the counter ran the scan for me and it said "Speed Sensor A"
he then used the computer in the store and claimed it was the input speed sensor

I'll run back over to the store and preform a second diagnostic and be sure to copy the codes , will report back later this afternoon

thanks for the speedy response

No way to know he correct without the actual code. It could just be the right front wheel speed sensor.

ran the diagnostic again at the auto part store 3 codes shot back

p0500
p1191
p1193

the clerk suggested the speedometer cable could be broken, any thoughts?
didn't think this vehicle had a speedometer cable, thought it was electric

P0500 = Vehicle speed sensor circuit malfunction (this is usually the right front wheel sensor)

P1191 & P1193 = LIMP HOME - LOW RPM (Problem with the electronic throttle system)

Smile Little late but someone else may need this

You vehicle has 3, count 'em 3 speed sensors. Transmission Input, output and a Vehicle Speed sensor. Your replaced the Input and Output speed sensors. The Vehicle speed sensor is lower down like under the throttle body. It is a 3 wire like the others but the connector is different. P0500 is for Vehicle speed signal...... Just thought I would throw that out there. Sounds like those techs were shot gunning parts without even reading the system operation or looking at schematics. Good luck!

Correct.

VSS was my first thought when reading this ...
These techs are fools. Speedo cable broken ... big laugh ...

in/out sensor failure is common, too on these trannies but then speedo still works.

Makes me mad: they charge 110$ but aren't capable of looking at live data from the A/T that would immediately tell the full story.

b.t.w. wheel speed sensor failure will trigger ABS fault.
VSS on F4A... and F5A... A/Ts actually works on a gear that was initially designed to drive a speedo cable ...
