Whoever told you that is 100% wrong.

What year Santa Fe? There are 2 different 2.7L V6's in the Santa Fe. Neither are Chrysler.
- the 2.7L Delta in the first generation (2001-2006) is made by Hyundai
- the 2.7L MU in the second generation (2007-2012) is a Kia engineered variant of the Hyundai Delta engine that includes continuous variable valve timing (CVVT)

They are probably thinking about the inline 4-cylinder Theta engine that was part of the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance LLC (or GEMA), a joint venture of Chrysler, Mitsubishi Motors, and Hyundai Motor Company for developing a line of shared engines. But even the Theta engine was designed and built by Hyundai/Kia, not Chrysler.

I own (or have owned) 2 Delta engines: One in a 2004 Tiburon and one in the 2006 Tucson I still own. The Tucson has a 105K miles on it currently. A great engine if maintained well.
