Default 30,000 mile service check up

It is time for my 2007 Sonata to be brought in for the 30,000 mile check up. I called and they told me it is $499 plus tax and disposal fees. I can bet it will be near $600 when it is all said and done. I am having a hard time spending this money on something that is not broken. If I choose not to bring the car in, is this a bad move? Also, would this affect my extended service plan that I pay monthly? Basically...I am considering not bringing the car in for the service and canceling my extended service plan. Times are a bit tough withthe loss of my job and I am will willing to take the risk if something goes wrong with the car andtaking care of it at that time.

Any thoughts out there?

Thank you.

I've done the 30K service on 3 different Hyundai/Kia cars. The prices were $351.87 for my 2004 Tiburon GT (2.7L V6), $532.07 for my 2006 Tucson GLS (2.7L V6) and $475.64 for my 2006 Kia Sedona EX (3.8L V6). The 2 Hyundai's were done at the same Hyundai delaership while the Kia was done at a Kia dealership.

The service consisted of:
- oil/filter change
- tire rotation
- replace coolant
- replace automatic trans fluid (complete flush, not just draining thepan)
- all inspections (drive belts, fuel lines/hoses, brake hoses/lines, brake linings/calipers/rotors/drums, exhaust, suspension, power steering pump/hoses, CV joints/boots, A/C, brake fluid, tires)

Also normally included in the 30K service is replacing the engine air filter and cabin air filters. However, these were not changed in my 3 vehicles because theywere already changed by myself prior to the 30K service.

This is normal maintenance that comes with owning a vehicle.

Yes it is a bad move. If something goes wrong and you can't prove the service was done, your warranty will be voided. The warranty is only good if all required maintenance is completed.

Thanks to all who posted to my concern. I called a few other Hyundai dealers in my area and was told two different prices besides the $499 I was quoted. One place told me $450 and another said $867! I asked if I were to do thework myself and keep the receipts, if that would be enough to keep my warranty from being voided. They told me yes it would, but I wouldHAVE to use Hyundai transmission fluid.

Can I get this anywhere, or do I need to pruchase it from a dealer? I forgot to ask this when I was speaking with the service dept.

Thanks again!

I think it's Hyundai only. Someone said it's Mitshbishi spec.

Hyundai automatics REQUIRE SP-III transmission fluid. You don't have to buy specifically Hyundai trans fluid, you can buy another brand as long as it is alsoSP-III.

Thanks so much for you detailed information. Very helpful in deciding what is included and what is a good price for the service.
