Had my 98 Accent in for a timing belt, tensioner and water pump. Appears the dealer assembled things 180 out and started it. Got a call telling me they think they bent a valve. I am reaonably aware of the problem this can cause, but if someone could refresh my memory, I'm going to the shop in the a.m. to have a look for myself, want to know what to look for.

They should fix the valve, period.  The whole reason to use a dealer is to get it done right; if they messed up, they are liable for the repairs to clean up the mess they made.
