On my Santa Fe 2004 350 SL I parked the car in the church parking lot and after the sermon(1 hour) I put the key in and I could not turn it. I reinserted the key and could not turn it. Eventually after turning the wheel and trying to shift(no go), the key was able to be turned. What caused this frozen lock in summer weather?

Most probably the shift lock spring inside the steering lock assy is binding. This can be fixed by adjusting the shift lock cable.

How do you adjust the shift lock cable? Why does the steering lock assy binds?

You should not attempt to adjust the cable.Only trained tech should adjust this due to safety concerns. If the vehicle is under warranty bring it to the dealer. Why is it binding.I dont know I would have to diagnose the car to find that out.
