I looked at it this way: One reason I bought a Hyundai is that it has the longest warranty of any car out there- 5 years, 60,000 miles, bumper-to-bumper. That was one of the differences between that and other cars. I could pay even more to buy an insurance policy to take that out to 100,000 miles, but really....that would take away the cost advantage of buying the Hyundai to begin with. I would do this: get your money back. You can buy the extended warranty any time before the old warranty is up, so why let them have the money ahead of time? That's the way I saw it, anyway. Now, on my wife's Taurus, we decided to buy the warranty. That only had a 36k warranty though, and just recently we used the warranty, at 90,000 miles. We used it once or twice already. But even with that, we still haven't gotten our money back yet.

IMHO extended warranties for anything, cars, electronics, appliances, etc are never worth it in the long run. The are offered to give you peace of mind, yes, but in all cases they are revenue generating schemes for the manufacturers. On average, the warranties pay out much less in repairs than the initial cost of the warranty. You may be one of the few who actually would be saved with a warranty, but chances are not. Do you expect the engine to seize up, and the tranny to fall out? Not me. Could it happen? Yes. I Always decline extended warranties. I may get bit one day, but so far I'm richer...
