2006 Sonata owner's manual says to pinch left and right side tabs to release glove box. Did that but glove box does not want to fold down completely to expose the filter. looks like there is a "cord" at the bottom right hand side that's holding it back. Do I release this cord too? tanbks

Yes. If it's like the Elantra (and I think it is), you open the glove box just enought to reach in to the part at the end of the cord, a little piece of plastic maybe a half inch long, and lift it up to pull it into the glove box. Then line that plastic piece up with the cord and push it back through the hole the cord comes through. If that sounds confusing I might be able to explain it with pictures.

You pull the piece off the side of the dash then once inside just unclip the cord off the side of the gove box and pull the two taps inside. The gove box will release and go all the way down. Just carefully follow the instructions I read them, then went out and did it but that was a mistake. I had a Nissan sentra before and the tabs on the cabin filter door flipped up so I tried the same thing instintually on the sonata and snapped every one off so I have to go to the dealer and order a new one just remeber to pinch together and pull.

Doo's got it down pat there, I have replaced the filter in my 2004 twice now and thats how she works...

If someone can help me take step my step pictures for either the 04-05 Sonata or 01-05 XG, i'll send them a free cabin filter.

or if they are local, I can replace their filter for them for free. Anyone interested?
