Hello friends. I am doing a timing belt on my 1995 Hyundai Sonata with a 4 cyl. 2.0 Liter. It was done about 30,000 miles ago and ran rough from day 1. Recently my water pump started leaking so I am doing this one myself and the directions say if you do not have the balance shaft lined up correctly it will cause a vibration. The repair manual just says the alignment plug is on the left side of the block and has an ambiguose picture. Can anyone be more specific. I found some info on the net that says it behind the exhaust manifold but that was on a v 6. I see a hole up there with a set screw in it but do not want to tear the exhaust apart if thats not it. Is the plug in the same spot as the v 6?  Thanks for any help. Oh yeah ps. The balance shaft belt looks like it was never changed but I would like to check the alignment anyhow.

you really need to change both timing and balance belt- usally the balance belt breals and takes-out t-belt -the bolt for shaft is by exhaust manifold has 14mm head ( 9/16) if your not metric -take bolt out and stick screrw driver in it is a half shaft-

lighthouse1: The only plug I see there is behind the exhaust manifold. And there is no way I can get a screwdriver back there without dropping the exhaust many, Did you have to take the exhaust manifold out to get to the plug?
