We have a 2005 Sonata and I know I was really over the mileage on the first oil change.

My girlfriend's commute is 30 miles each way, mostly highway. Is 5000 miles too far to stretch it between oil changes? I'm a 5000 miler myself on my truck, but I'm not up on smaller import engines (I have a 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel, no way I'm changing 15 quarts of oil every 3000 miles, LoL).

Whaddya say?

Factory recommendation is every 3 months or 3000 miles whichever comes first. I run synthetic oil in my vehicles which I change every 5000 miles. Depending on what oil you use , tests have shown that most oils break down after 3000 miles and some before. I run strictly mobil one due to the processing phases their oil goes through. It is really your choice since it is your car. Note that aftermarket oil filters will cause a knocking sound in some vehicles.Hyundai has just published a TSB on this.We have alot of problems with aftermarket filters. Try to stick to the factory filter. It costs just as much as a aftermarket. If you keep all your receipts you can show you use the hyundai filters in case a problem arises down the road.

Thanks for the info!

I think we'll just get it changed at the dealer. Its $19.95 there, which is cheaper than Jiffy Lube or Grease Monkey. Why not have no questions about the warranty?

So far we're extremely happy with our dealer, so I don't see a reason to go elsewhere.
