I have a 2002 Sonata with the 2.7 6 cyl engine.. about 2 months ago my wife said instrument panel and other electrics were "clicking" while starting and running. I checked and battery seemed weak. Replaced the Battery and all problems went away..Till today...Same problem this Morning..Nothing with key turn to start. Put my Portable battery Jumper on it and it started.. Same problem seems to lead me to the Alternator going bad..Am I correct here.  Its the clicking and flickering that has me confused.. Help.....Please, so I can remedy this...And she can stop with the "I need a new car" deal.

Same symptoms on a 2000 Elantra was an alternator going bad.  sounds like the woman wants a new car regardless of cause.  :-)  Good luck with that one.

use multimeter/dvom and check voltage. if you're going to replace alternator and you're not mechanically incline you would want to take it to a shop.

The same thing happend 3 times with my sonata, Parked my car to go to work, got in it after work started and the Battery light and Brake light was on (because the daytime running lights where in off mode) then i heard relays clicking , by the time i got home my air bag light was on i had no RPM guage nor did i have Speedo on top of the battery light and parking brake light, basicly the car was shutting her self down to conserve power need to keep the main items going to get me home such as the ECM and ignition coil.

To me sounds like you alternator is about to kick the bucket...remember three times this happend to me...lol...then i got one off a Santa FE , a higher amp Alternator...

not sure about the voltage, what you also have to check is the connector on the alternator. just get a good alternator it should work the same. i would recommend one from the dealer it should also come with a warranty.
