Hello everybody, my son's 2000 Elantra is showing a PO 422 code, which if I'm reading correctly is an O2 sensor. Anyone have any knowledge on which one, where it is located and how hard it is to change.

Thanks & Happy Holidays,

Frank

i'm not really sure if p0422 is and o2 sensor code, i thinks it's a Catalytic code. Cat no good. there is a recall on cracked exhaust manifold. probably you can take in your car to the dealer have them check to see if it's cracked then they will replace your manifold for free.

Thanks for the reply

I rechecked the stored code and it is PO422, saying something like catalyst bank one temp.
I've looked all over the web with no luck, the only reference being to the O2 sensor.

Anybody else have an idea?

Thanks,
Frank

p0422 is a catalyst efficiency code. if you had a scan tool you could monitor the o2 sensors and you would notice that the rear sensor the one after the cat is the same(working) as the one before it. the second/rear sensor monitors cat efficiency. when that o2 sensor is reading the same as the front sensor that means the catalytic converter is not cleaning the air. that's what it is, the cat is no good.
