Hello all,
New forum member here.
I have a 2003 sonata with 93k miles. My chk engine light came on for the first time ever at 70 mph climbing a long 5% grade. My generic OBDII reader showed a 1529 code, which reset OK after the read. Check engine light remains off after a warm up drive around town.
Anyone who can tell me what the 1529 means?  I get the feeling I'm due for a tune up.
Also do sonatas have timing belts or chains? When do they start to need replacement?

that code is telling you something is wrong with the transmission. you would have scan the transmission ecu to find out what the problem is. normally some solenoid is bad or harness which is better to get a reman trans. not to scare you but just giving you a heads up of what's the worst can be. the engine uses a timing belt. it is recommended that you change that belt a 60k. if you have 93k on the engine and have not change it yet you're driving on thin ice.
