I have a 2003 Hyundai Elantra. I noticed lately that if I am in Drive, but holdin the brake there is a loud rattling noise. Also, when im accellerating the engine just feels like its strainging to go anywhere. No warnin lights have come on or anything.

Any ideas?

could possibly be an engine mount going bad. does this only happen in drive or reverse? does the car shake any other times?

what you can do is put the car in drive or reverse then with your left foot on the brake, parking brake on, step on the gas for as if you're accelerating and have an assistant look at the engine to see if it moves excessively. that will tell you which mount is bad.

I noticed that it does it in Reverse and in Drive.

Would a bad engine mount affect how the car feels when Im driving aka the engine strain im feeling?

no i don't think so. that normally depends on engine and transmission performance.

Then what I would do is, with the car running and in drive. Put the emergency brake on and try to locate where the noise is coming from. It could just possibly be something loose or a shield of some sort vibrating against something.
