I just purchase a 2003 Elantra with 53k miles.

The Check Engine Light comes on whenever the tank is filled with gas and stays on until the tank goes below (roughly) the 1/2 full level.

Does anyone know what "sensor" this may point to?  Any idea if fuel sensors are covered by warranty?  I called the dealer but they stated that I need a $95.00 computer check before they will give an opinion.

If you car has been on the road for less than five years you are still fully covered by the bumper-to-bumper warranty.  The dealer should be able to give you date when the car was first put into service.  If it is less than five years, they should fix this under warranty with NO CHARGE to you.

Also, you may be covered by a federal emissions warranty; here is a summary from the EPA:  http://epa.gov/otaq/consumer/warr95fs.txt

Also, if the build date on the label in your driver's door area is less than five years ago, you know for a fact it has been on the road less than five years and you still have warranty left.

First off, do you have it under warranty? Second, yes, there is a sensor under the vehicle toward the rear by the tank. Your check engine light comes on because, it's storing a fault code somewhere in the electronical system. I would advise you to take it in to advance auto parts or Autozone and have them run a diagnostic test on it just to be sure of the problem. The testing is 100% free so don't worry about that. It beats Hyundais' 95.00 fee. LOL ;(
