I have to get a transmission flush on my 03 Sonata.  If I use Versa Trans Synthetic fluid, will my warranty still be in effect?  Is this the correct fluid to use on this car?

How much should I expect to pay?

Thanks!
K

I wouldn't use the VersaTrans ATF for several reasons, but the bottom line is it may be an incompatable product that may invalidate the warrenty.  Goto:

http://tds.econocophillips.com/catalogs/Conoco/Power%20Transmission%20Fluids/Con%20VersaTrans%20ATF%20TDS%20Web.pdf

The pdf contains the product specifications published by ConocoPhillips.  Bascally, VersaTrans is a synthetic-blend ATF designed to substitute for Dextron II/III and Mercon V products.  It states it is recommend for use in Hyundai vehicles, but doesn't state which specific application is appropriate.  I know some Kia vehicles (mostly some of the SUV models) do specify and use Dextron III in the tranny (and Hyundai badged version likely do too), so ConocoPhillips may have tested the product in those vehicles with great success.  If I had such a vehicle, I'd make the switch to this or a similar synthetic blend (e.g. Valvoline MaxLife ATF) in a heart beat, but another forum member has already pointed out SPIII is the correct ATF formulation for the Sonata.  If one searches this and other Hyundai forums, it doesn't take long to discover that Dextron III replacements with or without additives are not good substitutes for SPIII in the Sonata transmission.  It is easy to find examples of premature transmission failures cited shortly after the original SPIII was replaced with Dextron III, even with a good lubricity additive like LubeGard Red.

The VersaTrans is no doubt a better product than plain Dextron III, but still no assurance that it is functionally equivalent to SPIII.  Besides, I seriously doubt the VersaTrans product is any cheaper than the SPIII you can buy from a Hyundai, Kia  or Mitsubishi dealership.  I think the potential risk to the tranny far out weights the potential cost savings.
