auto transmission problem

ok here it's my wife has a 97 hyundai sonata and it will not shift into 3 ger, but it will shift to 1 and 2 but not 3 what is the problem

did you check the trans fluid?

the fluid is fine still red, i was told mybe the tps or thorttle cable or something as

well if you accel. slowly and it doesn't shift i wouldn't think that it's the tps. try manually shifting the through the gears and see if it makes a difference. you probably have an internal problem since your fluid is good.

I would say most likely a sensor, either transmission input or output speed.  Usually when those fail, though, it just goes into third and stays there ("limp home" mode) because the electronics are smart enough to know not to try to shift if the sensors are providing wonky readings.

if u try to go over 40 the rpm go over 4000 rpm

Firstly, this is a 4-speed transmission (3-speed + selectable OD)
Go to a HYUNDAI dealer, and have him check the tranny “RANGE SWITCH” operation with the scanner. If this switch fails, then it will not shift correctly.
