Hi,

1999 accent GLS.

I disconnected the battery negative terminal for around 5 minutes. After reconnection the car has now begun to idle roughly. It's starts without a problem and there is no loss of power at high speeds but whenever I have to stop at lights etc.the engine rpms drop momentarily (with the headlamps dimming for a split second) and then increase and remain steady (although the engine sounds as if it's about to stall). I never had this problem prior to disconnecting and reconnecting the battery.

Is there any way I could have damaged the alternator?

All suggestions welcome>

Thanks

Hmm maybe it just bad connections, You could clean it by usign a metal wire brush and clean off the terminals. And make sure it bolted on good also.

Ditto...check to make sure the connection is good. If the lights are dimming its got something to do with the power.

Thanks for the replies.

Could be the battery terminal connection alright.

Someone else suggested that the ECU would have been reset after the battery was disconnected so the car would need to be driven at various rpms so that the ECU could re-learn the correct settings?

Does that sound logical?

The problem seems to have corrected itself since I've been drving the car over the past few days.
