Seems like the exhaust manifold on my '95 Accent is either cracked or needs a new gasket. It's loud.

I have read here that this problem is known for several models of Hyundai, and that the manufacturer is paying its dealers to fix the problem, free to owners of these cars.

Would my '95 Accent be covered under such a program? I'm going to call my dealer, but first would love to hear from the real experts, Hyundai owners such as yourselves!

If not, how easy (or hard) is it to replace the manifold myself? I'm not a professional mechanic, but have replaced engines in older Hondas and have the tools (unless there is a specialized tool for such proceedure). Chiltons manual recommended, or some other guide?

Not hard at all,chances are the gasket is busted and its just a matter of getting a new one. Just unbolt everything and you can have it all done in less than 30 mins.

Thanks for the response. 30 minutes, that's fast! If it were a cracked manifold (as I'm now suspecting), would replacing it be about the same amount of time?
