2.4 engine. Says vehicle speed sensor a malfunction. where is this sensor? bought the car a few weeks ago.  so far the lot has sent it out to fix the crank sensor.  when we picked it up the ck eng light came back on and now the speedo will not work.  Took it back to the repair shop and they claim to have changed the  speed sensor.  but the speedo still wont work.any sugestions?

P0500 = Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction
- The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is not reading (functioning) properly
- There is a broken/frayed wire leading to the vehicle speed sensor

The simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
Next, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the speed sensor. The location of the sensor depends on your vehicle. The sensor could be on the rear axle, transmission, or perhaps the wheel hub (brake) assembly.
If the wiring and connectors are OK, then check the voltage at the speed sensor.
If everything looks OK, replace the sensor.

what actually happened is that whoever had the car replaced the right front axle and didn't noticed that the ring tone wheel on axle is not on it. that's probably why you're getting that code. not the sensor in the tranny, the one on the axle at the right front hub.

Ill have to pull the wheel on the right front. They changed the crank position sensor and you have to pull the right front wheel and splash guard off so maybe they knocked something off or broke a wire.  The speedo was working when my son first had it it wasnt working after they fixed the crank pos sensor.  thanks for the help everyone

the speed sensor on the right front wheel is not for the speedo, but for the ECM for rough road sensing.

why did they have to remove the front wheel to replace the cranksensor? oh this car is a four cylinder, well hope they fix it.
