The turbo most likely has a blown oil seal on the shaft connecting the two impellers, and most likely on the exhaust end of the shaft from the symptoms you describe. The white smoke is engine oil from the turbo being blown out the exhaust by the hot exhaust gases. Don't run the engine for any length of time and watch the oil level in the crankcase, as oil is being pumped out of the engine.
