There was a day when I could and did. That's been gone for a couple decades now. Idle speed, startup idle speed, fuel mixture, etc. is all now controled by the onboard computer. Changes have to be made using computer equipment that can read and reprogram the car's onboard computer.

Incorrect. Thinner oil when cold will flow to the areas quicker to provide protection.

Do you not know what multi-viscosity oil is? A thinner 5w30 thinner oil will flow better WHEN COLD than a 10w30 but will still have the same protection at normal operating temperatures.
