Three questions:

1) Is the check engine light on the dash lit?

2) How many miles on the car?

3) Have you recently checked the ATF fluid level in the transmission?

No, the check engine light is not on. I think there is a problem with the wiring. Some of the other dash lights don't work either.  T here is 150 km's on the car and the transmission was just flushed and there is new fluid and it is fine.
I think the problem is with the Over Drive switch on the gear shifter.  It is driving like the OD is off.  Is there an easy way to get at this switch on the shifter. ???

Which fluid was used for the flush?  The only correct answer is SP-III.  If you went to a shop other than a Hyundai, Kia or Mitsubishi dealer, they probably used something called "universal synthetic" which can damage Hyundai automatic transmissions.  It's not truly universal.  From the owners manual, "Use HYUNDAI GENUINE ATF SP III, DIAMOND ATF SP III, SK ATF SP III or other brands approved by Hyundai Motor Co., when adding or changing fluid. Using the wrong ATF may result in damage to the ATM."  Hyundai or SK ATF SP III can be bought at Hyundai and Kia dealers, and Diamond ATF SP III can be bought at Mitsubishi and some Chrysler dealers.

If the wrong fluid was used, you may have to get the transmission shop to repair the tranny at their expense, since they used the wrong fluid.

I found the problem.  There was a small wire running from the Over Drive switch that was broken, causing it to no go into overdrive..... Spliced the wire and everything woks fine.
